Career Services at the School of Business
Hi everyone! My name is Elisa Pöyry and I am a master’s student at Aalto University School of Business, majoring in marketing. During my studies, I have received great support for my future career from the university, and have also completed several internships in my field during my bachelor’s and master’s at Aalto. Therefore, I have also slowly started to build my career already while studying. In this blog post, I will discuss the different types of career services and support available for students at the School of Business.
Career Services in a Nutshell
The Aalto University’s School of Business Career Services supports students during their studies and offers opportunities to learn about career paths and job possibilities in different industries. The services are in the same unit as the Corporate and Alumni Relations of the School and work closely with Aalto University Career Design Lab, also collaborating with several other networks within the university. The School of Business Career Services supports students by providing for example personal career advice, mentoring programme, internship support and grants, career and placement information via communication channels, as well as recruitment fairs and other events, to name a few.
Career Guidance
The students at the School of Business have the opportunity to book personal job search and career counseling from the Career Services specialists, either in-person or remotely. During those meetings, you can for example get help in identifying your most significant skills and discuss how to show them in your CV in the best possible way. The specialists can also give tips on how to better utilize your LinkedIn profile and how to succeed in a job interview or applying for an internship. I have received guidance on both my CV and interviews already in the beginning of my studies in Otaniemi. Those sessions with specialists were indeed very helpful, and I got many new ideas and perspectives on how to better showcase my expertise as a marketing student.
Events and Trainings
Students can also participate in job search trainings which focus on for example CV and application letter, or on case interviews. In these trainings, you can receive excellent tips and advice directly from the company recruiters which is great. Moreover, there are various career and mentoring events where you can interact with School of Business alumni, and personally I have found those opportunities extremely valuable and inspiring. Additionally, there are recruitment fairs and employer events including Aalto Talent Expo and Summer Job Day, in which you can meet employers who recruit Aalto University students, and even participate in CV and LinkedIn clinics held by the partner companies.
Mentoring Programme
Another excellent opportunity is the Aalto University Student Alumni Mentoring Programme, which brings together about 150 mentoring pairs every year. The participants of the programme include both Finnish and international students of Aalto, as well as alumni of Aalto University who live in Finland or around the world. The mentoring process has a long tradition at the School of Business, and it is possible to apply for a mentor when the student is completing their master’s studies. This is also definitely something that I am planning to join this year. In addition, there is also Aalto International Talent Program which is a group mentoring initiative bringing together international students and employers looking for talent.
In conclusion, there exists a lot of support available for students regarding their future careers. The School of Business Career Services enables one to explore and find meaningful work that suits both their studies and career prospects. Personally, I have been extremely happy and grateful for the guidance that I have been receiving during my studies at Aalto, and for all of the opportunities provided by the Career Services. I also encourage everyone to be active and start building their career as early as possible during their studies!

Small Struggles of an International Student Moving to Finland for the First Time
Hello! I am Vitória, a 3rd year Design and Media student at Aalto University. I am originally from Portugal, and I moved to Finland for the first time 2 and half years ago to start my studies. My experience has overall been super positive and I couldn’t see myself elsewhere at the moment. However, not everything is a walk in the park.
Why the Design and Media BA at Aalto Was the Perfect Choice for Me (and Could Be for You Too!)
Hey there! I’m Kata, a second-year student in the English Design BA program (now called Design and Media) at Aalto University. I’m originally from Hungary, and just 2 years ago, I was in high school, stressing over finals and facing “the” big questions: What am I interested in? What do I want to study? And, essentially, what do I want to do with my life?
