Product Development Project (PDP) is a year-long course in which students solve an industry challenge. It includes a lot of prototyping and even more user-centred design. Each team has a large budget and international teammates who they can meet up to a few times a year. This year (2020), you can help even Naughty Burger!

Advanced Manufacturing
Do you want to learn how to 3D print or how to operate a laser cutting machine? This course covers these topics broadly during lectures and provides you with the opportunity to use the above-mentioned devices. In the end, you design, print an object and put it in a laser-cut wooden box. Feel free to be creative!
My team members Team members: Sofia Gonzales Gonzales, Esa-Pekka Kortesmaa and I, we photographed one of the members and created a 3D model of her bust. Then, we tried to make it into a springo. Eventually, we ended up with a cute alpaca with conformal channels, a diamond-shaped body with a lattice structure and moveable legs.

Life Science Technologies Project Course
This course seeks solutions to real-world problems in the field of life science technologies. By working in multidisciplinary teams, you get the chance to work on one of many different projects starting from neuromarketing to harnessing the molecular properties of wool for “smart” materials applications.

CHEMARTS offers multiple courses you can choose from: Design Meets Biomaterials, Plant Biomass, CHEMARTS Project, and CHEMARTS Summer School 2.0 and can be also completed as a minor. During the course, students learn design thinking and creating objects from biomaterials, especially often by using cellulose. Extremely welcomed are Design students and Chemical Engineering School students.
I took Design Meets Biomaterials, but due to the pandemic, we didn’t spend much time in the labs. However, based on a literature review and by being inspired by Vegea’s grape leather, my team developed a concept of berry leather.

This new AVP (Aalto Ventures Program) course will teach you about creating cosmetic products and transforming your business idea into a company. The course is dedicated to Chemical Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management students, but of course, everyone is welcome. At the end of the course, you will feel satisfied holding your cosmetic in your hands!
Last year, my team and I were working on creating a more sustainable nail polish for a company case offered by HAVU.

University-Wide Art Studies offers many different courses throughout the year, in which you’ll find something for you. For example, this autumn you could enroll in Designing and Creating Virtual Worlds to learn about Unity 3D and coding a VR application, which is one of my personal favorites. On the other hand, in spring you could take Game Design and Production, and to relax a bit Handmade and Reflected, which offers a glassblowing workshop.
